From The Principal's Desk

Eyes are windows to the brain, which enables us to see, to learn, to live and appreciate the wonders and beauty of the nature. In spite of knowing its importance, we usually are not able to take proper care of it. It has been observed that our country has the maximum number of blind people in the world of which avoidable blindness and vision impairment contribute a significant amount. Around 11 million children in India are blind or visually impaired merely from the lack of an eye examination and appropriate pair of glasses. Recognizing such situations, it is very important for us to increase the manpower of eye health care.

In order to increase the man-power of eye health care, trainee eye health care professionals need to be developed. Recognizing the need, the Yaima College of Optometry has started Bachelor of Optometry course for the first time in state. Optometrist are primary healthcare provider of the eye and vision system who can successfully manage the leading cause of vision impairment (i.e. refractive error) and can also help alleviate the burden of other causes of blindness through diagnosis, referral and co-management.

As the Principal of Yaima College of Optometry, I feel extremely happy and proud that the college is starting its 7th batch. I also take opportunity to congratulate our passed out students who have secured good positions in eye hospital and other sectors. I encourage all the youths who are opting medical profession as their career to choose this noble profession of optometrist and help people to see the beauty of the world. I give my best wishes to the students and faculties for the coming session 2024-2025.
